Elland is a Yorkshire valley town with a strong heritage and history – we celebrated our 700th birthday in 2017! Elland was recorded as Elant in the Domesday Book. The town’s name is derived from the Old English meaning ‘land by the water, river or land partly or wholly surrounded by water’ (wikipedia).
It is full of small businesses run by local people and has the potential to be a wonderful, inspiring and beautiful place to live. However, local people often talk about difficulties accessing or finding out about opportunities in their town and often have to travel into nearby larger towns instead. There are also limited services available that focus on wellbeing and quality of life and so we created Welland to act as a catalyst for positive change – brining new and exciting opportunities for the community and highlighting the brilliant things Elland already offers.
We live and work in Elland and are determined to make a positive difference for the local community. It’s time to get together, celebrate, collaborate, and create – help Elland get its ‘mo-jo’ back!
